Selecting a therapist can be a difficult process. It will take sometime to get referrals from family, friends as well as doing some independent research on therapist in your area. The following are a few helpful tips:
Check the Therapist credentials (contact state licensing boards)
Arrange sometime to meet with therapist
Select a therapist with specific credentials and experience that addresses your core needs (For example: Anger, abuse, and ADHD etc. - Theory of practice/length of experience
Does the therapist accept insurance, sliding scale fee and or pro bono? (Important question to ask- many providers do take insurance)
Does the practice have any opening? If no can you refer us to local therapist with similar experience
Session fees (how much will sessions cost)
Hours of the practice (Do you offer weekend sessions?)
